The Beijing Olympic Stadium - both of them

So I went out yesterday to see these collosal structures. At the moment they are both still under heavy construction. Thousands of workers living in nearby temporary quarters are digging, lifting, and hacking away non stop.

The water sports centre is made of some kind of bubble like translucent material, which lets in light during the day and the structure appears to glow at night. Or at least thats what they say.

The National sports stadium is called the 鸟巢 "Niao Chao" (birds nest). It looks amazing, I wish I had clearance to get closer to it. I had to sweet talk a gaurd to get as close as I was.

hi friends. I just left Qing Dao yesterday. I thought I'd show you another video. In the early 1900s the city was under German control. They left their mark in the architecture they left behind.

Hi guys. Im still in Qing Dao. Now it seems that I can't access blip.tv where I store my videos. This means trouble. So many sites are blocked, its starting to creep me out.

OK they may be tracing this conversation right now. Perhaps they are watching my every move. The Chi-eye-nese government has blocked the xanga website entirely since March 13th. Transmissions will now be limited to this blogger site alone.

Even wikipedia is shut down. Im being Oh-pressed. Ive heard there is a website in the US that acts as somekind of remote service provider for people in limited access countries to get past the blockade. Anyone heard of such a thing?

Qing Dao

Hi Everybody,

Due to the fact that I haven't had much net access lately I havent been updating.

So Im in Qindao right now. Its a city by the sea east of Beijing. Land of the famouse Qing Dao Beer, German architechture, and of course host of the 2008 olypmic water sports.

its been overcast for the past week and at last the sun came out, so I got some sun and checked out the beach.

Quick story - I walked into a restaurant last night. Being so close to the ocean, the seafood is really fresh.

So just as a step through the door this girl points the floor and gasps. I look over and there is an octopus slowly making its way across the floor. As far as edible octopi (or however you spell the plural form of octopus) this guy was quite big. Looked like he weighed a pound or so.

So hes slithering around and we just keep on going. I look over my shoulder 30 seconds later and hes still going. Waiters and people are walking by and no one seems to care.

Maybe he got away, maybe he became someones dinner. But the point of the story is that in China "fresh" means still alive. If it aint moving at the time you order it, it aint fresh.

internet bar Guangxi Nanning

Hi friends.

Im in a internet bar in Nanning China. This place is packed out. I couldn't even get a seat when I came in. The place is full of smoke, and everyones watching movies, chatting, emailing, and playing games.

Yeah. I wish I had more time to say what Im doing here. but I gotta meet people across the street in 3 minutes. dang it. Hopefully Ill have internet again soon.

I was hanging around Time Square last night in Causeway Bay. Its basically a huge mall with a jumbotron on the outside. I shot this with my still camera shooting low quality mpeg4 and edited in iMovie.

Gotta love the cell phone systems in Asia. No contracts, no bills, no people calling you threatening to cut off your service. Just walk into a 7 eleven, grab a sim card for US$6 and you got a local number.

Only problem is the number expires in 6 months, So my old card is dead. Anyways the new # is 6356 2578. Hong Kong intl code is (852). Somebody Skypeout me.

I arrived in Hong Kong this morning at 5:30am.
its 2pm here now. Im feeling the jetlag. Gotta stay up gotta fight it!!!
